Interior Design: Dead or Alive

Film by Gareth Johnson

The above film is an introduction to the 'Interior Design: Dead or Alive' Symposium by Professor Ben Kelly RDI.

As part of his campaign ‘Popular Culture and the Interior’, Ben Kelly RDI, UAL Chair of Interior and Spatial Design (2013-2016 Project) hosted a symposium at the ICA on 14 March 2015.

The symposium, ‘Interior Design: Dead or Alive’, aimed to take stock of the ability of iconic interiors to effect and influence the direction of popular culture and the wider world.

The event was promoted with a poster campaign designed by UAL students. The posters were installed onto specially designed hoardings in the public areas at Chelsea, London College of Communication and Central Saint Martins.
The symposium considered the cultural significance of the subject and practice of interior design and, in order to expand our understanding of its significance, a range of speakers were drawn from the widest set of perspectives and disciplines including: artists, designers, writers, business, media and cultural institutions.
