Description

As well as guiding you through essential drawing and presentation techniques, we will give you an introduction to three-dimensional thinking and analysis. We will do this via lectures, workshops and demonstrations covering everything required for designing a simple domestic interior from soft furnishings to the use of hard materials. 

With a wealth of unrivalled experience and expertise, our tutors' practical approach will prepare you for a future in the design profession. The emphasis will be on developing practical skills by completing a simple design project. You will be amazed at what you can achieve during this intensive and very practical course 

Please note that this course requires dedication; students should therefore allow extra time to work on their project outside of the class.

Tutor information

Debbie Blandford has a Masters Degree from the Royal College of Art and 28 years experience working as design consultant to architectural practices and individual clients. She has a passion for working collaboratively and globally, resulting in a truly eclectic career. Projects have included hotels, bars and restaurants, aviation design, exhibitions, and high end residential interiors. 

Clients have included the government of Saudi Arabia. Debbie also designs Furniture offering a truly bespoke interior service as well as developing products with Ross Lovegrove.  

Alongside her professional career she has taught part time across all educational levels in both the public and private sectors as well as delivering specialist courses for companies including British Airways, The Foreign Office and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Currently Associate Lecturer at The University of the Arts London & Professor at Syracuse University



Lyndall Fernie is the lead tutor for Interior Design short courses at Chelsea College of Arts in London and Dubai.

Lyndall began her career in Italy as a professional fashion designer working with Moschino and Versace; later returning to the UK to work in PR for a record label where she worked with many well-known dance groups such as S’Express, Bomb the Bass and Deee-Lite. She went on to study Interior Design, at Chelsea College of Arts and ran Area Squared Design, a successful interior design company, for 10 years, designing high end residential properties in central London. During this time she also opened two interior design shops in the fashionable area of Islington in London selling beautiful interior products. 

Lyndall is currently working as a design consultant for private clients, developers, and interior design companies, specialising in the remodelling of high end residential properties. As well as teaching at Chelsea College of Arts she has also taught at other leading design schools including London College of Communication, The Interior Design School London, KLC and The Design school in both Moscow and St Petersburg.



Jayne Fisher is an interior designer with more than twenty years experience in both domestic and commercial practice.  Since 1999, Jayne has been an independent lighting and interior design consultant on both domestic and commercial design projects.

She has worked in retail with responsibility for the design and project management of many high street stores including Virgin and Office Shoes.

Other projects are residential, preparing planning applications, design and decorative schemes along with project management. She has been teaching design students on both Interior Design and Lighting courses for Chelsea College of Arts and London College of Communication since 1998.




Materials

Please bring the following materials with you to this course:

  • Notebook and pen

  • Retractable eraser

  • A3 pad of tracing paper

  • Fine liner pens; sizes 0.1, 0.3 and 0.8

If studying on an intensive 3 week course, a laptop or tablet will be required for research from day three.

As part of your research you may wish to do some printing. Please bring a small amount of cash to the course on your first day to credit your printing account.

Please note that most of the materials needed for Short Courses are available at the Chelsea College of Arts' Art Shop. Please contact the Art Shop directly for opening hours and availability.
