The Retain Achieve Succeed Research Programme (RAS) is one of a number of strategies implemented by UAL as part of its Diversity and Attainment work. This is part of a seven-year strategic plan aiming to build upon UAL's reputation as a world-leader in arts, design and communication education.
Now into its third phase, RAS was set up in September 2010 in response to the University's concern about an identified disparity between home Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) and home white students' attainment in their final degree classifications.
The first phase of RAS sought to identify reasons for this so-called attainment gap. In 2015, RAS announced its second phase, during which RAS researchers extended this work and developed new intersectional perspectives on the ongoing issues.
Now working in concert with the Learning and Teaching Exchange, and across UAL diversity initiatives and attainment programmes, the third phase of RAS is focused on the further dissemination of the findings and recommendations and on the development of impactful, cross-cultural exchange about diversity and inclusion issues in the Higher Education, arts sector.
